Tap Tap Revenge: Best Free iPhone Game Yet?
Talk about addictive. Free iPhone game Tap Tap Revenge has an instantly-familiar interface to anyone who's ever played Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Supplied music tracks play in the background, and colored dots rain down from the top of the screen to the bottom. When the dots intersect the white bar along the bottom of the screen, you have to tap the dot. When an arrow scrolls down, you have to jerk the phone to the left, right, or down, depending on the arrow, as if tapping an invisible object.
There are four difficulty levels, with Extreme foisting a literal shower of dots down upon you. Tilting the phone doesn't register with the same degree of accuracy as tapping, though, making the tilting bits an exercise in frustration. It would be nice if there were a screen-based option that could take the place of moving the phone, such as tapping at the edges of the screen.

iSteam for iPhone earns a bunch of 22-year olds $100,000 in one month
iSteam features an incredible graphics engine that renders foggy, wet overlays on top of any image from your iPhone's library with astounding realism. But it isn't just the graphics itself, it's the clever use of iPhone's user interface and sensors that earned this application such a huge following.
For start, you can press your finger against iPhone's touchscreen to draw shapes, which wipes out moisture and reveals your image underneath. It also provides real-time feedback with a finger squeaking sound. The jaw-dropping effect perfectly mimics real-life drawing on a steamy window and simply begs to be tried. You can also leave the image in tact to see realistic droplets form and leave marks as they fall down the screen. Turn the handset upside down and droplets change the falling direction accordingly. When you draw an image, you can email it to someone, or shake the handset to clear the screen and start over (like an Etch-a-Sketch).

How to Make Your Own Free iPhone Dock
All we get from Apple is a poxy little USB cable, while Steve Jobs and Tim Cook sit on a mountain of sweet-smelling cash, rubbing coins on their faces and smoking roll-ups made from £20 notes that they lit with a £5 note - all because we went out and bought a dock for our iPhone that should have had one included in the box!
Where was I? Oh yes - picking my iPhone up off the floor.
But no longer. I decided to learn by Apple's thrifty example and made my own iPhone stand from recycled cardboard.
That's right, Cook! How do you like them... Apples. Hmm, he probably likes them quite a lot. Not the best sting I've ever administered to The Man, but you get the point.
Apple's got enough of your money, dear punter, so Pocket Gamer's here to save you a few quid and show you how to make your own iPhone/iPod touch stand.

Obama Offered Free iPhone - Support US Not Canada Say Apple
"Research In Motion and their Blackberry is a Canadian Company and Apple is a pure American Company," the insider said. "It makes sense to support an American Company as opposed to a foreign product during the economic downturn," the Apple executive added.
The move comes as Research In Motion stands to get massive global brand awareness.
Despite legal and security hurdles, president-elect Barack Obama intends to keep his beloved Blackberry when he moves into the White House this week. Interviewed by CNN, Obama said the smartphone was among the tools that he would use to stay in touch with "real Americans" to avoid becoming trapped inside the presidential "bubble".
"My assumption is that anything I write in an e-mail could end up being on CNN," he said. "So I make sure to think before I press 'send'."
Obama did not divulge just how he will overcome legal constraints, given the requirement of the Presidential Records Act to keep a record of every White House communication.
The mobile device dilemma may have inadvertently been solved on Friday.
Obama's Blackberry fell from his belt when he left his limo to board his plane in Washington. A Secret Service agent hurried to pick up the pieces.

New Role for the iPhone: Speech Therapy Assistant
The scientists programed the iPhone with a sophisticated voice monitoring system that evaluates and scores speech behaviors taught during stuttering therapy.
The iPhone is being used by their owners to work on their speech fluency whenever and wherever it suits them.
When the research institute’s clients use their iPhones during training at a shopping mall, restaurant or business, the phones display fluency measurements for each utterance onscreen.
Having this data immediately available to stuttering therapy program participants makes speech practice more effective and helps hastens its benefits, the scientists say.
In addition, the iPhone records every speech sample and then transmits the file to the institute for analysis and to provide more precise training for each individual.
An estimated 66 million people worldwide suffer from the effects of stuttering, with 3 million living in the U.S., according to the National Institutes of Health. There is no cure for the condition — only stuttering treatment can help.

Stanford Students Release A Cool Batch Of Free iPhone Apps
A list of them is here, and some of them I’m going to keep on my phone. My favorite is iDiscover, which gives you random content you think will be interesting (text, videos, apps). You rate them and it teaches the app to refine what it sends you in the future. It’s a sort of StumbleUpon for the iPhone, and its addicting. iDiscover is free. Air Guitar, a $1.99 app, looks like it might be another winner but I’m having issues downloading it.
Among the yet-to-be-approved apps, Site Saver looks like a useful way to store web content locally. I tend to take a screen shot of whatever I’m looking at, but this looks like a better solution if it saves the whole web page rather than just what’s on the screen. And Heydar, a location-based dating application, is being released at the perfect time.
The complete list is below.

Apple Threatens Legal Action Against Those That Mimic the iPhone
Apple created a fuss when Apple's Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook gave some pointed comments directed towards Palm. The exchange took place during Apple’s recent earnings call. During the Q&A, one of the reporters asks, "There are other iPhone competitors coming to the market: Android, Palm Pre. How do you think about sustaining leadership in the face of these competitors?"
That's when things went south. COO Cook responded, "It's difficult to compare to products that are not yet in the market. IPhone has seen terrific rating from customers. Software is the key ingredient, and we believe that we are years ahead of our competitors. Having different screen sizes, different input methods, and differenthardware makes things difficult for developers. We view iPhone as primarily a software platform, which is different from our competitors. We don't mind competition, but if others rip off our intellectual property, we will go after them.
